Exercise Physiology

Exercise Physiology for Neurodiverse Children in Brisbane, Melbourne & Gold Coast

Neurodiverse Playhouse offers evidence-based exercise physiology programs for neurodiverse children, adolescents, and young adults aged 2–25.

Available in Brisbane, Melbourne, and Gold Coast — no diagnosis required.

Play-Based Movement for Every Child

What Is Exercise Physiology for Children?

Exercise physiology for children uses structured, evidence-based physical activity to support movement, strength, coordination, and overall wellbeing. At Neurodiverse Playhouse, our exercise physiology programs are designed specifically for neurodiverse young people — and they're built around play, not performance.

Our accredited exercise physiologists work alongside occupational therapists and paediatric podiatrists to deliver a truly multidisciplinary approach to your child's development..

What Does Exercise Physiology Support in Neurodiverse Children?

Our exercise physiology programs in Brisbane, Melbourne, and Gold Coast support:

  • Gross motor development — running, jumping, throwing, climbing
  • Coordination and balance — body awareness and spatial processing
  • Muscle strength and endurance — building physical foundations for everyday activity
  • Emotional regulation through movement — using exercise as a regulation tool
  • Cardiovascular fitness — supporting energy, sleep, and focus
  • Hypermobility management — targeted programs for children with hypermobile joints
  • Sensory motor integration — movement-based activities that support neurological development

Progress is reviewed every 6 weeks against your child's individual goals.

Our Approach: Movement That Feels Like Play

At Neurodiverse Playhouse, exercise physiology isn't about drills, performance, or pushing limits.

It's about helping your child discover what their body can do — joyfully and at their own pace.

What makes our approach different:

  • Neuroaffirming and strengths-based — we celebrate every win, big or small
  • Child-led and interest-driven — sessions are built around what your child loves
  • Primitive reflex integration incorporated into movement programs
  • Multidisciplinary collaboration — exercise physiologists work alongside OTs and podiatrists
  • No diagnosis required — every child is welcome

Sessions are available individually and as part of our broader sensory motor programs.

Exercise Physiology in Action

Exercise Physiology and Hydrotherapy (Gold Coast)

Our Gold Coast clinic (Burleigh Heads) offers hydrotherapy as part of our exercise physiology program.

Hydrotherapy — exercise in a warm water environment — is particularly well-suited for children with:

  • ADHD
  • Autism
  • Global developmental delay

The water environment provides natural sensory input, reduces joint stress, and supports movement in a calming, low-pressure setting.

Who Is Exercise Physiology For?

Our exercise physiology programs are open to:

  • Children aged 2–12 with developmental differences
  • Adolescents and young adults aged 13–25
  • Children with autism, ADHD, PDA, hypermobility, or global developmental delay
  • Children without a formal diagnosis who would benefit from structured movement support

No formal diagnosis is required. We meet every child where they are.

Exercise Physiology Locations

We offer exercise physiology for children at:

  • Brisbane (Spring Hill and Banyo) — indoor and outdoor options
  • Melbourne (Yarraville) - indoor and outdoor options
  • Gold Coast (Burleigh Heads) — including hydrotherapy
  • Sunshine Coast — coming soon

Exercise physiology sessions: $166.99 per session. NDIS funding accepted.

Please reach us at letsplay@neurodiverseplayhouse.com.au if you cannot find an answer to your question.

It's an evidence-based program using structured physical activity to support movement, coordination, strength, and emotional regulation — tailored specifically for children with autism, ADHD, and other developmental differences.

Exercise physiology is delivered by an accredited professional and is individually tailored to your child's developmental needs, goals, and sensory profile. It's therapeutic, not competitive.

No. Neurodiverse Playhouse welcomes all children and young people. No formal diagnosis is required to enrol.

Hydrotherapy is exercise-based therapy conducted in a warm water pool. It's available at our Gold Coast playhouse and is particularly beneficial for children with ADHD, autism, and global developmental delay.

Most families notice improvements in gross motor skills, coordination, balance, emotional regulation, and energy levels within 3–6 months of regular sessions.

Neurodiverse Playhouse accepts NDIS funding for exercise physiology sessions.

Yes! Exercise physiology sessions at Neurodiverse Playhouse may be covered under a Medicare Chronic Disease Management (CDM) plan (previously called an Enhanced Primary Care plan). With a referral from your GP, you may be eligible for up to 5 allied health sessions per calendar year with a Medicare rebate rate to cover part of the fee. Speak to your GP about whether a CDM plan is right for your child.

Please note there is an out of pocket fee.

Many private health funds cover exercise physiology under extras cover. The amount rebated depends on your specific policy and fund. We recommend checking directly with your health insurer before your first session. Our team is happy to provide receipts and invoices to support your claim.
