ADHD looks different in every child. For some, it's a whirlwind of energy and impulsivity. For others, it's a quiet struggle to stay focused, manage big emotions, or get started on tasks that feel overwhelming.Common experiences for children and young people with ADHD include:
These aren't flaws. They're differences — and with the right support, they become superpowers.

Our Melbourne playhouses offer a multidisciplinary approach to ADHD support, bringing together specialists who understand neurodivergent brains and know how to work with them, not against them.
Occupational therapy is one of the most powerful tools for supporting children with ADHD. Our OTs work on the everyday skills that ADHD can make tricky — executive functioning, emotional regulation, sensory processing, and fine motor development. Sessions are play-based and interest-driven, so your child is engaged from the moment they walk in.
Movement is medicine for ADHD brains. Our exercise physiologists use purposeful, structured movement to support body awareness, coordination, gross motor development, and focus. Exercise physiology helps regulate the nervous system — making it easier for children to settle, attend, and engage in daily life.
Many children with ADHD retain primitive reflexes that were meant to integrate in early infancy. When these reflexes persist, they can contribute to attention difficulties, emotional dysregulation, and sensory challenges. Our primitive reflex integration program addresses these foundational neurological patterns — supporting the brain and body to work together more effectively.
Whether your child thrives one-on-one or benefits from peer connection, we have options. Individual sessions are tailored entirely to your child's goals. Group therapy uses the Social Thinking framework to build self-regulation, communication, and social connection in a small, supportive environment.
Designed to support sensory processing and regulation, our sensory motor programs help children with ADHD feel more comfortable and regulated in their bodies — which makes everything else easier.
For children who find it hard to put feelings into words, art therapy offers a powerful alternative. Creative expression supports emotional regulation, self-awareness, and confidence — all in a low-pressure, joyful setting.
ADHD brains are wired for novelty, interest, and autonomy. Traditional therapy models — structured, demand-heavy, adult-directed — can feel overwhelming or disengaging for children with ADHD.
At Neurodiverse Playhouse, we flip the script. Your child leads. We follow their interests, reduce demands, and embed therapeutic goals into activities they actually love. The result? A child who is regulated, engaged, and making real progress — without even realising they're "doing therapy."
This low-demand, interest-driven environment isn't just more enjoyable. It's more effective.

Every child is different, but most families begin noticing meaningful changes within 3–6 months of starting therapy. Common improvements include:
We review goals every 6 weeks to make sure therapy is always moving in the right direction for your child.

Not at all. We welcome every family, with or without a formal diagnosis. If you have concerns about your child's attention, regulation, or development — that's reason enough to reach out.
Sessions are child-led and play-based. Your child's therapist will follow their interests and embed goals into activities they enjoy. There are no rigid drills or demand-heavy tasks — just meaningful, joyful engagement that builds real skills over time.
OT targets the everyday challenges ADHD creates — executive functioning, emotional regulation, sensory processing, and fine motor skills. Our OTs use evidence-based, play-based strategies tailored to your child's unique profile.
Absolutely. Many of the children we support have more than one diagnosis or area of difference. Our team is experienced in supporting ADHD alongside autism, PDA, developmental delays, and sensory processing differences — always with a strengths-first, neuroaffirming lens.
Most families notice meaningful progress within 3–6 months. We review therapy goals every 6 weeks to ensure your child is always moving forward. Every child's journey is unique — and we're with you every step of the way.
At Neurodiverse Playhouse, we want accessing support to be as straightforward as possible for your family. There are several funding options available depending on your circumstances — here's a quick guide to help you find what works best for you.
NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme)
If your child has an NDIS plan, you may be able to use your funding to access our services. Our therapies can be funded under the Capacity Building — Supports for Daily Activities budget, which typically covers occupational therapy, exercise physiology, and other allied health supports.
Whether you are self-managed, plan-managed, or NDIA-managed, get in touch with us and we'll help you understand how to use your plan to access the support your child needs.
Chronic Disease Management (CDM) Plan — also known as an EPC Plan
A Chronic Disease Management (CDM) plan — previously called an Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) plan — is arranged through your GP. If your child has a chronic condition or developmental concern, your GP may be able to refer them for up to 5 Medicare-rebated allied health sessions per calendar year.
This can help cover the cost of occupational therapy sessions at Neurodiverse Playhouse. Simply ask your GP whether your child is eligible and request a referral to an occupational therapist.
Private Health Insurance
If you hold private health insurance with extras cover, you may be eligible for a rebate on some of our services, including occupational therapy and podiatry. Rebate amounts vary depending on your level of cover and your fund.
We recommend checking directly with your health fund to confirm what's covered under your policy before your first appointment.
We'd love to meet you.
