Every child is born with a set of automatic movements called primitive reflexes. They're a beautiful, natural part of early development. But sometimes, these reflexes stick around longer than expected — and when they do, they can quietly affect how a child learns, moves, focuses, and feels. At Neurodiverse Playhouse, our primitive reflex integration therapy helps children gently release what's holding them back, so they can step into their full potential.
Neurodiverse Playhouse provides evidence-informed primitive reflex integration therapy for children and young people aged 2–25. Available in Brisbane, Melbourne, and Gold Coast — no diagnosis required.

Primitive reflexes are automatic movement patterns that develop in the womb and support a baby's survival in the first months of life. As the brain matures, these reflexes are typically "integrated" — absorbed into more complex, controlled movements.
When primitive reflexes are retained (still active beyond the expected developmental stage), they can quietly interfere with a child's ability to regulate their body, focus their attention, and engage with the world.
Think of it like a background programme the brain hasn't fully switched off yet.
Primitive reflex integration therapy is a gentle, evidence-informed approach that supports the brain and body to complete what they started — and it can make a remarkable difference.

Primitive reflexes are automatic movement patterns present from birth. They support early survival and development. When they remain active beyond infancy, they can affect learning, movement, focus, and emotional regulation.
Signs include clumsiness, difficulty focusing, emotional dysregulation, sensitivity to sensory input, and challenges with reading or handwriting. A therapist assessment can identify retained reflexes.
Most children show meaningful improvements in coordination, focus, and emotional regulation within 3–6 months of consistent therapy.
Neurodiverse Playhouse welcomes all children and young people. No formal diagnosis is required.
Yes! Our primitive reflex integration is provided by our Exercise physiologists at Neurodiverse Playhouse and may be covered under a Medicare Chronic Disease Management (CDM) plan (previously called an Enhanced Primary Care plan). With a referral from your GP, you may be eligible for up to 5 allied health sessions per calendar year with a Medicare rebate rate to cover part of the fee. Speak to your GP about whether a CDM plan is right for your child.
Please note there is an out of pocket fee.
Many private health funds cover exercise physiology under extras cover. The amount rebated depends on your specific policy and fund. We recommend checking directly with your health insurer before your first session. Our team is happy to provide receipts and invoices to support your claim.
